D. Paul Ralph, PhD (British Columbia), B.Sc. / B.Comm (Memorial), is an award-winning scientist, author, consultant, professor of software engineering and director of the Dalhousie Software Engineering Lab. His cutting-edge research at the intersection of software engineering, human-computer interaction, and project management investigates how to improve the environmental, social, economic, and technical sustainability of software development. Dr. Ralph’s previous research has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed articles in premier venues including IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering and used by leading companies including Adobe, Amazon, AT&T, Broadcom, Canon, IBM, Google, HP, Microsoft, Netflix, Oracle, PayPal, Samsung, Salesforce, Yahoo!, and Walmart. Dr. Ralph is also editor-in-chief of the SIGSOFT Empirical Standards for Software Engineering Research. He is among the world’s top 25 software engineering researchers according to objective metrics-based ranking systems CSRankings and ScholarGPS.
Dr. Ralph recently published Sustainable Dual-Track Development, a technical book that aims to reconcile user-centred design, agile methods, and sustainable development by advancing a “dual-track” project organization structure. It represents the most significant evolution of software development methods in almost 20 years.
